OPTIMAL RESEARCH CONDITIONS
‘La Forêt des Singes’ is an ideal study site for researchers.
The monkeys roam freely through 20 ha of forest. These optimal living conditions, which are similar to what they would find in the wild, allow them great freedom of action. They can establish social units and express the full range of their behaviour.
Since the opening of the park in 1974, scientists have been studying the social behaviour of the Barbary macaque, a highly evolved species. Data is collected by observation, without in any way disturbing the animals.
Our Barbary macaques have been the focus of numerous theses and masters in ethology (behavioural studies) for universities around the world.

OUR MAIN RESEARCH THEMES
• socialisation
• communication
• reproduction
• cognition
The research conducted in our park promotes better understanding of this species’ needs and behaviour, in order to better protect it and to provide our visitors with first hand information.
RESEARCH POSSIBILITIES
AT ‘LA FORÊT DES SINGES’
AT ‘LA FORÊT DES SINGES’
Our park encourages ethological research projects. It hosts students and researchers for lengthy periods, as the semi-wild conditions in which our monkeys live mean that a long pre-study period is required in order to recognise the individual animals, become familiar with the ethogram of the species, etc.
